300: Running Without Pain with Dr. Lisa
Welcome to the Joyful Mom Podcast! Today, we have Dr. Lisa, a physical therapist specializing in preventing and treating running injuries. She has helped thousands of runners worldwide and is on a mission to inspire and educate runners of all ages and experience levels to run pain-free.
Dr. Lisa shared that her journey into running wasn’t love at first sight. Growing up playing softball, running was more of a punishment than a joy. It wasn’t until grad school that she started running to clear her head and stay fit. Initially challenging, after a few weeks, she discovered a newfound enjoyment in the activity.
Now, Dr. Lisa dedicates herself to helping runners not only run pain-free but also enhance their overall quality of life. She believes running is transformative—it boosts confidence, relieves stress, and enriches daily life far beyond a simple hobby.
Her passion for running began during her career at a sports medicine clinic, where she treated numerous runners. To better understand their challenges, she took up running herself and found it uniquely rewarding. Now, she's committed to helping runners overcome pain and fully enjoy their running journeys.
For those feeling ready to challenge themselves, Dr. Lisa recommends incorporating speed work into their routines once a week. However, she emphasizes that most runs should remain at an easy pace to prevent injury and maintain enjoyment. Whether you aim for races or prefer a steady, easy pace, Dr. Lisa encourages embracing the benefits of running that align with your goals and preferences.
From her experience, Dr. Lisa stresses the importance of taking action. Setting goals is essential, but it’s the small, consistent steps that lead to clarity and achievement. Remember, you're in control of your journey—every stride counts towards your running and life goals.
